Manchester City were ready to pay big money for Lazio forward Mauro Zarate during the January transfer window.
That is the information that agent Jose Alberti was privy to as concerns grow that Lazio could lose the talented Argentine at the end of a season in which he has reached double figures.
Zarate is on loan to the Biancocelesti from Qatari side Al-Sadd but is known to followers of English football after a very impressive stint on loan at Birmingham last season.
City considered a move for Zarate last January and the world’s richest club might try again in the summer.
“Lazio have brought a unique talent to Italy who is under the spotlight of the biggest clubs in Europe and during the winter Manchester City were ready to snatch him from Lazio with a huge offer,” said Alberti.
“Lazio, for their part, can be calm because they have an agreement with Al-Sadd and have the player in their hands.”
