Werder Bremen have confirmed they are ready to exercise their option to sign on a permanent basis the on-loan Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro.
The Peruvian is coming to the end of a highly-productive season-long loan at the Bundesliga side and the team’s sporting director Klaus Allofs reiterated his team’s wish to sign the 30-year-old permanently.
Disappointing in his one and only season at Stamford Bridge, Pizarro has been anything but for Bremen, scoring 12 goals in 17 appearances this term.
“Our idea hasn’t changed,” said Allofs.
“We are going to pay the clause agreed with the English and we want to offer the player a permanent contract for one or two years.”
The option to buy Pizarro permanently is set at €6 million, but there had been speculation that Bremen would seek to renegotiate the terms of the deal after fears over the player’s fitness – claims that were denied categorically by Allofs.
“This is not something you see at all in games and Claudio is a very valuable player for us,” said Allofs.
