VILLA ... Chelsea's big summer target
CHELSEA are set to make an astonishing £40million bid for David Villa.
The Spain striker is cash-strapped Valencia’s prize asset and billionaire Blues owner Roman Abramovich is ready to test their resolve.
Villa, 27, was four-goal top scorer in Euro 2008 as Spain lifted the trophy and has been linked with a move to Manchester City.
But Abramovich is desperate for a high-profile signing this summer and is sure the lure of Champions League football will be enough to beat City in the race for Villa.
The star’s contract does not expire until 2014 but reports in Spain suggested that La Liga outfit Valencia were struggling to pay their players.
Selling Villa and highly-rated winger David Silva could solve their issues.

While Villa is a quality striker, after watching Euro, I don't think he plays well with Torres so if Liverpool buys him, I am not sure if it will work out well.

Not all spanish striker can tahan the physical nature of EPL.
Villa may be too soft for EPL.
Money is good but Liverpool dun have much to spare.

And Anelka while tall doesn't exactly have the physical prowess of Drogba to hold up the ball. Anelka could never be the sole target man, you have to play him a ball to feet within the 12 yard box and even then its still 50/50. I've yet to see him turn something out of nothing....
nah.. shearer said before. a striker job is to score, not create chances. thats the job of midfielder

Valencia striker David Villa has dismissed fresh speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea after insisting he wants to see out his contract with the Spanish club.
The Spain striker is reported to be a £35m summer transfer target for the Blues, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are also believed to be in the running for the 27-year-old hot-shot.
But after signing a new six-year contract at Valencia earlier in the season, Villa insists he is not looking to move on in the summer.
"Rumours do not affect me because to tell the truth I am expecting them, I am not influenced by them," he told AS.
"The club has not informed me about anything other than the six-year they wanted me to fulfil on my contract. They say just forget it and concentrate on the sport.
"If something comes, it will be discussed but now it is a waste of time. I get tired of answering the same thing.
"If the landscape changes on a professional level, our decisions won't because I want to stay.
"I don't look at September, as I am here for the next six years.
"Unless some from the club says otherwise, and repeat this has not happened, then I am here for six years."
