Newcastle have been ordered to pay €5.2 million (£4.6 million) for Argentina international Jonas Gutierrez.
Gutierrez joined The Magpies for an ‘undisclosed fee’ last July after the winger invoked Article 17 of Fifa's transfer regulations to cancel his contract with Real Mallorca and facilitate his switch to the North East.
Mallorca initially sought payment of €15 million (about £13.5 million) for Gutierrez, but declared themselves satisfied with the verdict of an independent panel which met in the Balearic capital on Tuesday.
The Liga side will receive €2.6 million, with the other half of the fee to be paid to Velez Sarsfield, the club who owned half of the player’s economic rights.
The arbitration panel also ruled that the two clubs are entitled between them to 20 percent of any sell-on should Gutierrez be transferred again in the future.
Reflecting on the award, Mallorca’s sporting director Nando Pons said: “We paid a fee for the player, who became an international at our club.
“He gave a lot to Mallorca and Mallorca gave a lot to him. I believe that it is a suitable agreement for all parties.”
