Shevchenko could see out his career in the MLS.
Reports in England claim that Chelsea are prepared to write off more than £7 million by paying up the remaining year of Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko's contract.
Shevchenko is due to return to Stamford Bridge in the summer after a loan spell at his former club AC Milan that was even less fruitful than his two seasons at Chelsea.
The Blues' owner, Roman Abramovich, brought the player to London in 2006, Now, he is ready to pay up the remainder of the 32-year-old's original four-year contract.
The former Ballon d'Or and Champions League winner's £30 million move from Milan to Chelsea was little short of disastrous for his career, even though he was reputedly on £140,000 a week, and the purchase has come to symbolise that club owners and chairmen are not necessarily better judges than managers in the transfer market.
Shevchenko scored 22 goals in 75 appearances, many as a substitute, for Chelsea over the two seasons he was at the club. And since returning to Milan he has managed just two goals in 26 appearances. It is now thought that he will likely head off to the United States to see out his career in the MLS.
