Jorge Valdano is apparently looking at strengthening Real Madrid's defence this summer by signing Gael Clichy from Arsenal.
The former sporting director looks as though he could make a return to the club, if Florentino Perez wins back his presidency, and he is already making plans for the transfer window.
Left-back has been a troubled position for Madrid this season too, with Gabriel Heinze putting in some below-par performances over the course of the campaign.
Hence, AS reports that Valdano is keen on bringing in Clichy, who is not only young, but is highly-rated around Europe and has plenty of experience.
At the age of 24, the Frenchman has played over 100 matches for the London side and has also played for his country for a few years. It is thought that it would cost around €17 million to prise him away from Arsenal and, with Perez likely to bring big money to spend, this figure does not seem too unreasonable.
Also on the Valdano radar is Patrice Evra, but with relations between Manchester United and Madrid nearly at an all-time low, that move seems highly unlikely to happen.
Another defender who has been rumoured to be moving to Spain is Maicon, the Brazilian right-back who has impressed greatly for Inter recently.
