WWE owner Vince McMahon has challenged Arsenal’s majority shareholder Stan Kroenke to a steel cage match after an embarrassing scheduling screw-up.
Kroenke owns the NBA team Denver Nuggets, who are scheduled to face the LA Lakers in a home Western Conference final match next Monday. However, Kroenke Sports Enterprises agreed last August to rent out the Pepsi Center to the WWE for their televised Raw show - an arrangement that was confirmed last month with no escape clause.
As Gabriele Marcotti in The Times points out, it’s the equivalent of Arsenal renting out the Emirates for a Madonna concert on the night of the Champions League semi-finals because they don’t expect to get there.
McMahon, never one to shy away from publicity, refuses to back down and as well as issuing his joke challenge, he ripped into Kroenke by saying:
“He should be arrested for impersonating a good businessman, because he’s not a good businessman.
“I think that the Denver Nuggets fans had a lot more faith in the team making the play-offs than the owner.
“It’s just not good business not supporting your own team.”
Do Gunners fans want this man to end up running their club or is Alisher Usmanov suddenly looking like an attractive alternative?
oh yeah, wwe raw was forced to broadcast in another arena next week ![]()
