Blackburn have made an early swoop in the transfer market with the signing of South Africa midfielder Elrio van Heerden on a two-year contract.

Van Heerden has been at Belgian side Club Brugge for the past three seasons but, upon reaching the expiration of his contract, has now moved to The Premier League on a free transfer.
The 25-year-old’s arrival comes little more than a week after his fellow countryman Aaron Mokoena left Ewood Park to join Portsmouth.
Van Heerden’s ability to play anywhere across the midfield makes him a welcome addition to a Rovers squad bereft of options following Mokoena and Tugay’s departures.
He is currently on international duty in preparation for the forthcoming Confederations Cup but was allowed to leave the camp in order to sign a two-year contract under Sam Allardyce.
