Lionel Messi has insisted that comparing him with Argentina legend Diego Maradona is ‘a lack of respect’.
There is only one ‘Pibe de Oro’ and nobody can be compared to one of the best players in the history of the game, according to Ballon d’Or prize favourite Messi.
The Barcelona winger has also claimed that being managed by Maradona is an honour, ahead of the World Cup qualifier at home to Colombia.
Argentina boss Maradona and Barcelona tactician Josep Guardiola share the same values, according to the Champions League winner.
“Nobody will ever match Maradona, he is unique,” Messi told Fox Sports in Buenos Aires. “Comparing me to Diego is a lack of respect.”
He added: “As far as coaches are concerned, Maradona and Guardiola are quite similar. Both of them are close to their players, they know a lot about football and they know how to communicate their instructions.”
“Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero and Carlos Tevez are immense footballers and playing alongside them is fantastic,” he added.
