Liverpool defender Daniel Agger believes he can break-up Rafa Benitez’s preferred defensive partnership of Martin Skrtel and Jamie Carragher and establish himself as a first-team regular.

The Dane was an ever-present in the Liverpool line-up following a £5.8 million switch from Danish club Brondby in 2006 before a foot injury scuppered his progress last season.
In his absence, Benitez signed Skrtel who quickly established himself in the heart of The Reds defense, while Agger was forced to kick his heels on the sidelines.
But after suffering an inconsistent campaign, in which he failed to regain his place in the side, Agger feels next season he can become a first-team regular.
The defender recently agreed a new contract at Anfield that will tie him to the club until 2014 on a reported salary of £55,000 a week.
“I have always believed that I am good enough to be a first-choice player for Liverpool,” he said in BT.
“I actually feel that I have a great chance of playing from the start of next season – if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have wanted to renew my contract with them.”
