  Aston Villa are eyeing Barcelona midfielder Alex Hleb.

  The Daily Star says Hleb joined Barca from Arsenal for £17m last summer, but they are prepared to accept as little as £10m for him now, especially as they want to raise cash to buy Gunners skipper Cesc Fabregas.

  Villa boss Martin O’Neill is believed to be interested in buying him as a striker or wide midfielder to offer competition to James Milner and Ashley Young.

  Hleb’s agent Oliver Minztlaff confirmed interest from English and German clubs. But Villa are top of the list.

  Hleb Villa link dismissed

  Alexander Hleb's agent has played down talk linking the Barcelona man with a move to Aston Villa.

  Reports have suggested Aston Villa are keen on bringing the former Arsenal ace back to the Premier League.

  Hleb has endured a frustrating first season at Barcelona after failing to hold down a regular place in Pep Guardiola's side.

  The Belarus international was believed to be considering his future at Camp Nou, but Hleb's representative, Uli Ferber, insists the 28-year-old is not thinking of leaving and that there has been no enquiry from Villa.

  "We don't know anything about any request from Aston Villa," Ferber told skysports.com.

  "Even though he is not playing regularly he is not thinking about changing teams.

  "He wants to stay at Barcelona and fight for his place."
