Manchester United are launching a bid for Inter Milan fullback Douglas Maicon.
Corriere dello Sport says Maicon, in South Africa with Brazil's Confederations Cup squad, is aware that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants to sign him.
Real Madrid have indicated they're willing to offer £18 million for the right-sided defender, however Ferguson is preparing to outbid United's rivals with a £22 million cash proposal.

Why would United want a 27 yrs old full-back for? Most full-back in England would require to run up and down a lot so… 27 is too old for this already as we know most full-back don’t last past 30 yrs old in the English game… So this news like too unbelievable liao… lol.

Maicon consider one of the world best right back.
He is a exceptional player just like Cafu who last his value right up to age of 35yrs old.
But Inter is not stupid to sell him. Unless is 40 million pound. I don't think they will let him go.

The right-back is unsettled at the San Siro and the Blues have been linked with a swoop. He admits he would consider a switch if Inter do not prove they can win the Champions League.
Chelsea have reached two semi-finals and the final in the past three seasons. And Maicon would be the ideal replacement for Jose Bosingwa, who is wanted by Bayern Munich.
New Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti, who is also tracking Portsmouth's Glen Johnson, is understood to be a big fan of the defender.
Maicon said: "Inter have to think big. "I want to win the Champions League because the Champions League is an important trophy for a player's career.
"If I can win it with Inter, fine. Otherwise it'll be necessary to consider going elsewhere to try to win it."
