COSTLY ... Aguero is after a fortune
Chelsea's top earners at the moment are skipper John Terry and midfielder Frank Lampard on around £150,000 a week. Aguero's salary demand could well end up pricing him out of a move to Chelsea, as he would also command a transfer fee of around £35m.
New boss Carlo Ancelotti has already started considering alternatives and has upped his interest in Aguero's fellow Argentinian Carlos Tevez, whose loan deal at Manchester United finishes this month.
Ancelotti even telephoned Tevez personally to try to sell his plans for Chelsea this week. Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon is overseeing the move for 21-year-old Aguero. He insists the club must trim its wage bill and attempt to reduce costs as part of a long-term plan to become self-sufficient without the need for subsidy from owner Roman Abramovich.
Aguero would pocket £6m a year AFTER tax if he gets his way on wages. Andrea Pirlo last night became the latest AC Milan player to offer himself to Chelsea.
Defensive midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has already hinted he is interested in a move to Stamford Bridge and now playmaker Pirlo, 30, has followed suit.
He said: "Perhaps it's possible that I could join Ancelotti in London. He is a great coach and perhaps I could play with him again."
