Former Liverpool chairman David Moores has resigned from the club’s board, The Reds announced on Thursday afternoon.
Moores sold Liverpool to George Gillett and Tom Hicks in February 2007 as he felt no longer capable of taking the club forward with his own resources.
However, the feud that developed between the two American owners left Moores disillusioned and, in April 2008, he stated: "It's heartbreaking. I'm almost lost for words about the damage that's being done to the club at the present time.”
The former Anfield chief will retain his position as honorary life president with the Merseyside club following Thursday’s announcement.
“Liverpool FC confirmed today that David Moores has resigned from the club's board of directors,” read a club statement.
“Mr Moores will, however, retain his position as club honorary life president.”
Moores joins former chief executive Rick Parry in leaving the board after it was announced in February that the latter would be departing at the end of the season just finished.
