Dutch giants Ajax reportedly failed to sign Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner in the deal that saw Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen move to the Emirates Stadium.
Vermaelen became the Gunners' first summer signing last week for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million, with manager Arsene Wenger seeking further recruits to ensure his side win a trophy in 2009/10 for the first time in five seasons.
And - according to The Sun - it is thought that the Frenchman rejected an offer from Ajax, now managed by former Tottenham Hotspur boss Martin Jol, for the 21-year-old Danish front-man's services.
Bendtner has made 58 league appearances for the North London outfit - netting 14 times - as well as winning 26 caps for Denmark.
It is the second time the striker has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this week.
Bendtner's father was forced to dismiss reports suggesting the former
Birmingham loanee was set to join Roma, insisting the forward's visit
to the Italian capital had been planned for some time.
true, with him or not ard at arsenal, doesnt really change anything
i think he has the potential to be a good striker.
he need to learn how to use his size to his advantage. arsenal please dont shape him into big size dribbler of the ball. he should be train to be menace in the box, like carew, drogba.
