Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out for the signature of Sweden Under-21 striker Marcus Berg.
Reports from mirror.co.uk suggest the Groningen forward will be allowed to leave the club for a fee of around €11.5 million (£10m).
Groningen
manager Hans Nijland appears resigned to losing the player, as his
agent has revealed Berg is a target for two English clubs.
"Soren
Lerby, the agent of Marcus Berg, has informed us there is a really
serious interest from two clubs in the Premier League," said the
Groningen boss.
"We have his replacement already lined up."
Villa could look to Berg as a replacement for John Carew, who has been linked with a move to Spurs himself this summer.
Tottenham
are also said to be in for the Swede as they search for a powerful
presence to partner Jermain Defoe or Robbie Keane, though would only
probably buy one of the two front-men.
Other clubs rumoured to be monitoring Berg include Everton, Fiorentina and Bayern Munich.

Sweden Under 21 hot-shot Marcus Berg
looks set to snub a move to the Premier League in favour of a switch to Hamburg, according to reports in Holland.
The Groningen striker is currently one of the hottest properties in European football following his goalscoring exploits at the European U21 Championships this summer, where he top scored with seven goals.
The 22-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to England with Fulham, Everton, Aston Villa
and Tottenham all said to be interested.
However, Groningen director Hans Nijland
has revealed that they have held talks with Hamburg, adding that the Bundeliga side are Berg's preferred destination.
"Hamburg's interest is very serious," he told Aftonbladet.
"I can confirm that we have had a personal meeting in Germany. Hamburg's interest is very serious.
"I am expecting a call from Hamburg any moment. Hopefully we can have a meeting in Groningen (Wednesday).
"We have discussed the clubs with Marcus and his agent Soren Lerby and have been advised that Hamburg is Marcus' first choice."
The transfer is said to be around the €10million mark but Lerby is unwilling to give anything away.
"We will see," he said. "First the clubs need to agree. Of course this is an interesting possibility. But right now I can't say more than that."

wah he rather go to german than epl eh. he follow the footsteps of vdv
maybe he like German league than EPL?

Fulham have now entered the race to sign Swedish goal machine Marcus Berg
from Dutch club Groningen.
Reports on Wednesday suggested that the 22-year-old preferred a move to Hamburg
but it now seems Cottagers manager Roy Hodgson
has stepped up his interest in the player.
The striker hit the headlines after scoring an impressive seven goals in this summer's Under 21 European Championship including a brace against England in the semi-finals.
Hamburg were believed to have agreed a fee of around €10million for the former Gothenburg ace but Groningen manager Henk Veldmate revealed that Fulham have concrete interest in the player.
"Those two clubs Fulham and Hamburg are the only ones left who are now in conversation with us when it comes to Marcus Berg," he told The Sun.
"We have had some meetings with both clubs. We will see what happens in the next couple of days.
"But I can say both these clubs have been concrete in their interest and we know Marcus wants to leave us for a bigger club."

Hamburg have completed the signing of Marcus Berg from Groningen, with the Swedish striker signing a five-year contract.
The Bundesliga club had spent the past fortnight locked in talks with Groningen over a deal for the top scorer at the recent European Under 21 Championship.
Negotiations appeared to have broken down due to the failure to settle on a fee, but Groningen have accepted an offer which brings in a club record amount for the Dutch side.
Groningen also revealed that Hamburg
do not want the transfer fee to be made public, while the two clubs will play a friendly in either 2010 or 2011.
Berg,
who had been linked with a string of clubs across Europe, is happy to have joined Hamburg and is eager to make his mark.
"I am pleased that everything is now perfect," Berg told the club's official website.
"HSV is a top club in the Bundesliga and I want good performances and goals to help ensure that we will be as successful as possible."
New Hamburg coach Bruno Labbadia
is confident that Berg can continue his impressive goalscoring form in
Germany after netting 44 times in 69 games for Groningen.
Labbadia said: "I am very glad that we have signed Marcus Berg. He is a striker who has a desire to score goals.
"That's what he has done in the past three years and impressively proved that at the recent European U21 Championship."
