Due to Real Madrid's flamboyant spending thus far in the transfer market, a number of former stars - including Netherlands international Ruud van Nistelrooy - are now deemed surplus to requirements.
The former Manchester United fox-in-the-box player has attracted the interest of both Tottenham Hotspur, and Blackburn Rovers, but the latter have been put off by the Dutchman's £120,000 per week wages.
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce explained to the Blackburn Citizen, "I think financially that would be pretty difficult for us to meet.
"I think that the sort of salary he would be earning at Real Madrid, unless Ruud wants to come and play in the Premier League again and wants to take less of a salary. Then I’d be interested.
"I wouldn’t be able to match his salary at Real Madrid, even if there was no fee involved. But, yes, it would be of interest to me, there’s no doubt about that."
He continued, "There’s nothing from my point of view that would say I wouldn’t want to talk to him if he wanted to come, but I’ve not enquired into that area.
"I think that would be some-thing of a major coup if you could do it, but very difficult."
Blackburn are on the hunt to find a replacement for Roque Santa Cruz, who joined Manchester City. Christian Vieri is also said to be on the club's radar.
