Ancelotti has dig at Man Utd over Owen signing

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has taken a swipe at Manchester United over their signing of Michael Owen.

While Sir Alex Ferguson swooped after losing Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, Ancelotti says his squad was already too strong to accommodate free agent Owen.

Why?

"Because now we have very good strikers in the team - (Didier) Drogba, (Nicolas) Anelka, (Salomon) Kalou," said Ancelotti.

Chelsea have signed a striker of their own: England Under 21 international Daniel Sturridge from Manchester City.

"Sturridge is a young player but he can potentially be a great striker," said his Italian boss.

"Michael Owen is a great striker and at the moment is in a low period, but I think he is not an old player, he is young at 29.

"For sure Manchester United have lost two important players but United maintain a great team because they have a lot of good players and also have a tradition, and this is also important to build a team."

When Owen was at his peak, I was terrified everytime Man United goes up against Liverpool. I would always pray our United defenders can shut out Michael Owen.

When Owen's injury halted his career, that fear was gone. I sensed he was no longer the same player he once was. Since then, I was never worried about him playing against United because I knew he couldnt do it.

Now that he has signed for United, I can only hope he can find back his form. But right now, I am not convinced of his abilities as a striker.

No pace, cant outjump most EPL defenders, hardly receive passes from teammates due to being tightly marked.

I hope with better team mates, we can see the old Owen with the terrifying form. I really hope he can contribute at least 10 goals in his first season.

well, Owen is never tall, like a crouch.. he needs to be play in, in the 6 yard box.

and while we can't expect him to run and score like that wonder goal, but I think any chances in the 6 yard box, he should have a high percentage of converting.

Plus if his understanding with berba or Rooney is sound, then he will have more chances than in newcastle. and that's the gamble, can he forge the r/s.

if yes, then good.. fitness wise, I think he will be used sparingly, not an all-out striker. so finger-crossed.
