Skysports.com understands that John Obi Mikel has signed a new long-term contract with Chelsea.
The Nigerian midfielder has been with the Blues since joining from Lyn Oslo in 2006 after a protracted and controversial transfer saga.
He has since established himself as a key player
for Chelsea and earned particularly good reviews for his performances
last season, when he had to take on more responsibility in the absence
through injury of Michael Essien.
Mikel's deal had been set to expire next year, leading to speculation that he could be set to leave Stamford Bridge.
However, agent John Shittu
revealed earlier this week that Mikel was ready to commit his future to Chelsea by penning a new five-year deal.
And it is believed that the 22-year-old has now done just that to give the Blues a boost ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
