PRIDE ... Almunia would love to pull on Three Lions jersey
Arsenal's Spanish keeper today becomes eligible for a British passport after chalking up five years in this country.
He has been linked with a controversial call-up to Fabio Capello's squad - and now that could become a reality.
The 32-year-old stopper insists he would be as chuffed as a player born and bred in Bradford, Barnsley or Bermondsey to wear the Three Lions on his chest.
He said: "It is almost impossible for me to be called up by Spain.
"But it would be an honour if the England coach counted on me."
Almunia would face competition from David James, Rob Green, Ben Foster, Scott Carson and Paul Robinson for a place in Capello's squad for the World Cup finals.

the state of english goalies this decade has been bad.
england used to have world class goalies like gordon banks, peter shilton, and david seaman.
the current no 1 is david james, who used to be calamity james during his stint at liverpool. he is already 37, and will not continue for much longer. after him, I dunno who is ready to take over the no 1 slot, whether its ben foster, robert green, paul robinson, no idea.
