Joe Cole looks set to miss the start of the season after suffering another injury setback. The Chelsea winger has had surgery to correct a small tear in his right knee and will not return to full training for another month.
The club described the injury as a 'minor setback', but Cole, 27, has not played since rupturing a cruciate ligament in January. He has not joined the squad on tour in the United States.
Skipper John Terry was on the plane to Seattle, alongside Andriy Shevchenko, who has returned from his loan spell at AC Milan, and new signings Ross Turnbull and Daniel Sturridge, while Yuri Zhirkov will join the party later.
Chelsea kick off their tour against Seattle Sounders tomorrow, followed by matches against Inter Milan, AC Milan and Club America.
