ON TARGET ... Michael Owen in action against Malaysia XI
The Manchester United striker, who joined on a free transfer earlier this month, played 62 minutes in an easy win over a Malaysia XI. Italian whizkid Federico Macheda opened the scoring for United with a simple tap-in on 11 minutes. And just seconds later, Owen doubled the lead with a typical clean strike — leaving Alex Ferguson full of praise for his attackers.
The United boss said: "I am pleased that Macheda and Owen have struck up a good partnership. "It was a typical Owen goal. He reacted first as he did the other night and his whole contribution was very good.
Ferguson rang the changes throughout the second half with big-hitters Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand getting a run-out.
United squandered a hatful of chances as they pushed for a third. Rooney, Anderson and Dimitar Berbatov all failed to hit the target from close range.
