Tottenham Hotspur's chances of signing Bayern Munich goal-machine Luca Toni may have increased, after the Italian front-man was reportedly demoted to the Bundesliga side's reserves.
The 32-year-old has netted 38 league goals in just 56 outings for the German giants since arriving in 2007, having bagged 47 and 50 league goals for previous clubs Fiorentina and Palermo respectively.
The prolific Italian - who has not been quite as lethal in front of goal for his country - is believed to be concerned about his first-team opportunities at the Allianz Arena in 2009/10 following the arrival of new coach Louis van Gaal and Stuttgart striker Mario Gomez.
And with current Spurs forwards Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko being linked with moves away from White Hart Lane, Harry Redknapp was considering a swoop for the 6ft 5in striker, according to Munich newspaper TZ.
With Toni having only recently returned to training following the Confederations Cup in South Africa, Van Gaal is believed to have been unhappy with the striker's fitness, and duly sent him to practise with the reserve team.
woah! gotta be pretty embarrasing for a world cup winner to play in the reserves.![]()
