Finnan looks set for Premier return
Steve Finnan has been linked with a return to the Premier League after Espanyol revealed they are in talks to cancel the full-back's contract.
Finnan only joined the Spanish side from Liverpool last summer, but struggled with injuries during his debut season in La Liga.
He was close to a move to Hull City during the January transfer window and is now being lined up for a move back to England, with Portsmouth, Stoke City, Sunderland and Wolves all linked with the 33-year-old.
The club's sporting director Ramon Planas has confirmed discussions are ongoing regarding a deal to tear up the final 12 months of Finnan's deal.
"We are negotiating to cancel his contract," Planas told the Spanish media.
"Hopefully we can reach an agreement which works for everybody."

Steve Finnan has been released from the final year of his contract with Espanyol, paving the way for a switch to Portsmouth.
The Republic of Ireland international, who only moved to Spain from Liverpool last summer, has called time on his injury-hit career in La Liga
after just one season.Espanyol confirmed on their official club website that they had reached an agreement for the full-back to move on 12 months before the end of his current deal.

revealed earlier on Monday that Finnan was one of several transfer targets he was hoping to secure having been handed the Fratton Park post on a full-time basis.Sunderland, Stoke City and Wolves have also been credited with an interest, but it appears the South Coast club are in pole position.
The 33-year-old made over 200 appearances during his five years at Anfield after moving to Merseyside from Fulham before being allowed to depart by Rafa Benitez.

Sky Sports News understands Steve Finnan has agreed to join Portsmouth on a one-year deal and that the defender has passed a medical.
The full-back was released by Espanyol on Monday following an unsuccessful season in Spain and it was reported he was keen on a return to the Premier League.
Former Fulham and Liverpool full-back Finnan
only moved to Espanyol last September, but he failed to settle with the Primera Liga club.Pompey boss Paul Hart,
who is also understood to have bid for Cardiff's Ross McCormack, has made no secret of his interest in the 33-year-old and is now on the verge of completing a deal.The Fratton Park manager will hope to secure Finnan's move before Pompey fly to Portugal on Wednesday as part of their pre-season training.
