EAR WE GO ... Federico Macheda celebrates his strike
FC Seoul 2 Man Utd 3
But while the comeback was impressive, the star for the Premier League champions was second-half substitute Park Ji Sung, who sent the Korean crowd into raptures.
United started the pre-season friendly in lively fashion, before falling behind to a strike by Dejan Damjanovic on 23 minutes.
Wes Brown and John O'Shea both fell asleep as the Montenegro striker slipped between them to prod the ball past Tomasz Kuszczak.
O'Shea did atone for his error on the half-hour mark when his cross set up the equaliser.
The Irish defender ventured forward and his ball in was steered home off the shoulder of Rooney.
Damjanovic then restored the lead for the Korean side, courtesy a delightful finish past Kuszczak on the stroke of half-time.
United boss Alex Ferguson made a raft of changes during the game but it was starting strikeforce Rooney and Macheda who combined to level for a second time before the hour-mark.
Rooney slotted a cracking ball over the top, which the Italian controlled before rounding the keeper.
The pair were swiftly replaced by Michael Owen and Berbatov, with the latter heading home a Darron Gibson cross five minutes later to seal the win.
But there was still time for a huge cheer from the crowd as Park emerged from the bench on 74 minutes.
The South Korean international was missing with a knee injury the last time United toured his home country.
And the 64,000 capacity crowd ensured it was a hero's welcome with every touch in his short cameo cheered like a goal.
