Liverpool striker Fernando Torres wants to replace Cristiano Ronaldo as the Premier League's top player. The Spain forward, who has scored 50 goals in 84 games for the Reds since signing from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2007, is confident he can help end the Merseysiders' 20-year wait for a league title and put the achievements of the Portuguese in the shade.
Torres said: 'Of course, my ambition is to be seen in that same way as Cristiano Ronaldo was seen at Manchester United.
'First we have to win trophies. I know only then will people be able to speak the same way about Liverpool and me as they have done (about) Ronaldo and United.'We're excited because we think this can be the year for Liverpool. But we know how difficult it's going to be.'
Ronaldo's goals and all-round play was instrumental in United winning three league titles in a row but he has now joined Real Madrid in a world record £80million deal.

Cannot really bring age into the mix lah, see some players, old in terms of soccer age but still playing like they are 24.

torres is counting the chicken before they are hatched... the premier league season has not even gone on its way.. and here he is talking about being the real deal... just because you scored a simple tap in against singapore, does not mean you are that fantastic...
Dirk Kyut was the real deal against singapore providing 3 assists and injecting some urgency into the liverpool's play.
Anyway, its still too early for torres to be the real deal. Though ronaldo is gone, there are many good players still around. For example, Rooney, Tevez, Yuri Zhirkov, Frank Lampard, Gerrard, Fabregas, Arshavin, Van Persie,Drogba...
Anyway, Man utd has only a superstar in Rooney, now that tevez and ronaldo are both gone. Giggs and Scholes are past their prime and useless. Nani, Fletcher, Park are just average players. Would united suffer this season? The only good thing is they do have a strong defense, but their midfield is damn bad. Attack wise only Rooney and the half fuck berbatov. Maybe Macheda's season?? Hope so...
But definitely, not gonna be torres' year.. maybe Adebayor's??

Well, a new season brings new challenge. Therefore, anyone could pop out of the blue... haha... no special reference to Chelsea or City lah... I mean just about anyone can make it... Last season we saw Anelka finally coming good again after so many years... Amr Zaki was on fire during the first half of the season... Stephen Ireland, Barry, Young and a few others all make a name for themselves...
The season before we saw Adebayor scoring as many goals as Torres, Santa Cruz was impressive, bargain buy of that season... And Fabregas showed what a good playmaker he can be...
This new season could see a new name who knows... Just like no one expected Ryan Giggs to play so well and influential for United that he became the Player of the Year...
Same with Alonso... At the start of the season, Rafa was touting him around like some piece a old furniture... Then to everyone's surprised, he became their star player...
This season, who knows... maybe Michael Owen whom almost everybody has written off surprise us? Arshavin full season? Chelsea's new Russian or Torres himself have every chance I guess... But season on season... Torres's performance have drop from his first... So will he improve on the last season or maintain it at there? I guess we will have to watch to find out...
