LAST GAME? ... Xabi Alonso on the subs bench for Liverpool against Espanyol last night
RAFA BENITEZ last night insisted he is still hopeful Xabi Alonso will stay at Liverpool.
The Kop midfielder, a £28million target for Real Madrid, made what looked like a cameo farewell appearance in their friendly defeat in Spain.
But boss Benitez said: "He is our player and we want him to stay."
Luis Garcia - a namesake of the former Anfield player - put Espanyol ahead before ex-Chelsea reserve Ben Sahar scored a second-half double to give the hosts an impressive win.
Liverpool failed to threaten despite having Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Jamie Carragher and Javier Mascherano in their starting line-up.

Where was Espanyol last season? They lay 10th in the spanish league. And beat Liverpool 3-0? Im utterly disappointed with this result. This is not the performance expected, with the season starting so soon. I really hope they cann buck up or else they can forget about winning EPL.

I think the Alonso transfer is dragging on for too long to be of any good to Pool at all... Players cannot concentrate fully when their is an unhappy player in the squad... Pool have played quite a few pre-season matches already and I think their win over Sg was the only the have won I belief... They couldn't even beat Thailand...
Remember Berbatov... Spurs drag it for so long that when the season started, they were still going about it and they lost like most of their games and only manage like 2 points from their first 8 games... Pool would be wise not the follow the same ways...
