  Xabi deadlock has Real Madrid turning to Arsenal's Cesc

  Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is again in the sights of big-spending Real Madrid.

  As well as Standard Liege's Steven Defour, Real Madrid also see Cesc as a possible alternative to signing Xabi Alonso from Liverpool.

  And Marca claims the Arsenal captain would welcome the chance to join Florentino Perez's new era at the Bernabeu.

  DEFOUR `COULDN`T SAY NO` TO REDS

  Steven Defour's agent has claimed the Standard Liege midfielder couldn't turn down the chance to join Liverpool if they came in for him.

  With Xabi Alonso's future continuing to dominate the headlines as Real Madrid look to secure his signing, the likes of Roma's Alberto Aquilani and Defour have been linked with a move to Anfield.

  Defour, 21, has also been linked with Real.

  And quoted in the Daily Mail, he says: "I have an agreement with Standard Liege that I could go to a top club, and Liverpool fit the bill."

  His agent Paul Stefani added: "Steven's name has been mentioned not only at Real Madrid, but also at Liverpool - they are looking at him too.

  "Normally he would stay for another year, but nobody could say no to clubs like those - and Liege would not stand in his way."

  The Sun also says that Liverpool 'will splash out £20million to land Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani - but only when Xabi Alonso finally joins Real Madrid'.
  
  According to them, 'The Reds have agreed a deal in principle for the Italian, 25, who has won 11 full caps and turned down Arsenal and Chelsea when he was 16.'
  
  If The Guardian is to be believed, the latest on Alonso is that 'Liverpool have told Real Madrid there will be no compromise over their asking price' - which as the world and his dog should know by now is approximately £30m.
  
  Meanwhile, the Daily Mail says that 'Steven Defour has joined Roma's Alberto Aquilani on the list of candidates to replace Xabi Alonso at the heart of Liverpool's midfield and has admitted his interest in an £18m Anfield move', while The Daily Mirror reckons Everton want Defour too.
