Manchester United chiefs are keen to bring David Beckham back to the club - when he retires.
The Sun says the one-time golden boy of Old Trafford is being considered for a goodwill ambassador's role at the club where he was a hero, once his playing days are over.
United's American owners are looking at ways to strengthen the club's brand around the world.
And that has led to the prospect of an incredible comeback for Becks, seven years after his infamous fall-out with boss Alex Ferguson which eventually led to his move to Real Madrid.
The LA Galaxy star, 34, would be used to help spread United's name and commercial links across the planet when he quits playing, tapping into his huge popularity - especially in the Far East.
A United insider said: "It's something that has only been whispered at this stage but Beckham will always be part of the United family.
"He could do for us what Sir Bobby Charlton has done for us all these years.
"There are emerging markets all the time and there could come a time in the very near future when Becks' association with United would be renewed.
"The club has lost Cristiano Ronaldo as a key marketing tool and Becks would help fill that void when he retires."
