Chelsea have been strongly linked with Andrea Pirlo, the Milan playmaker, over the past few weeks; however, the Rossoneri recently confirmed that their World Cup-winning midfielder was off the market.
Despite this, there have been some rumours floating around speculating that the Blues have added a further enticement to their bid for the ex-Inter player.
Michael Essien is the man that could go the other way if the Italian giants were to agree to this deal, but according to the latest words of Adriano Galliani, this will not be taking place.
“Chelsea have raised their offer by adding Essien? Pirlo has been removed from the market, so not even this would be considered,” the vice-president of the Rossoneri stressed to Corriere dello Sport.
“The matter is now closed.”
The London-based outfit are among the early favourites to take home this season’s English Premier League title; however, they are still keen to bolster their squad in the lead-up to the new campaign starting next weekend. -

Maybe Carlos isn't too impressed with Essien and thinks he already have Mikel... And might try everything he can to get his own boy Pirlo with him... Cos with a diamond formation, I don't know where Essien is going to play with Lampard, Ballack and new Russian guy in there...

essien is mr midfield...he is probably one of the best utiliy player all round....the only thing pirlo can do better is speaking italian to carlo....i don't think the new blue boss can last the season....while manu, arse and pool have sold key players, chelsea did lose the key person that matters most, guus...

this report is fake lar, dun believe chelsea will exchange essien for pirlo, who is already 30 and unproven in EPL.
If essien is available, clubs like barcelona and man utd at the head of the queue liao.

Its not as if Chelsea has a shortage of free-kick takers. If Pirlo comes, think of how many players will stand over the ball to take a free-kick

Actually those that could actually be playing, only Lampard. And Lampard's free-kick isn't great too... always depend on luck and deflection kind... Pirlo is probably the better FK taker. But when Beck went to Milan, Beck became 1st choice... Then there was still Ronaldinho...lol
