Newcastle United owners The Profitable Group have stated that
Alan Shearer will return as manager of the club if their bid to buy the north east side is successful.
Steve McMahon, the former Liverpool player who is a representative for The Profitable Group, has said that a bid has been launched by the Singapore-based consortium.
It was last week revealed that two bids had been received for the club, with both bids thought to be around £100 million, which is the new asking price set by owner Mike Ashley.
The Profitable Group are now the first bidders to publicly declare their interest in buying the Magpies, and McMahon is hopeful a deal can be completed, with rumours that Shearer will be installed as the club's new manager if the bid is successful.
Speaking to Singapore's
Straights Times, McMahon said,
"We've had a bid in and it's under serious consideration.
"It's a strategic move and will be great for Newcastle. We can turn what is a disaster at the moment into a success.
"By the end of the week, we'll know if we're successful or not."
The club were relegated to the Championship last season, and Ashley is now desperate to end his footballing nightmare and sell the club as quickly as he can, predicting losses of around £280 million.
