Manchester United have plans to hand Owen Hargreaves a new contract.
The Telegraph says Hargreaves will require at least "two to three months" of training before being able to make the first-team return that would secure a one-year extension to his United contract.
The 28 year-old has not figured for United since last September due to a tendinitis problem which resulted in surgery on both knees in December. Hargreaves signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford when he arrived from Bayern Munich in 2007, with an option of a fourth season.
It is believed United are already committed to extending his deal, leaving the player in control of his future should he make a return to full fitness.
