Former Middlesbrough defender Robert Huth has signed for Stoke City to become the club's biggest transfer.
The Sentinel says the 25-year-old Germany international signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans after agreeing his move to the Britannia Stadium, for an initial fee of £5m.
But add-ons mean the final outlay will eclipse the £5.5m Stoke paid Reading for striker Dave Kitson last summer.
Huth, who could make his debut against Sunderland on Saturday, said: "I'm grateful to Stoke for the opportunity to play in the Premier League so soon again.
"It really was a no-brainer to come here once I found out that this club wanted to sign me."
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough midfielder Tuncay remained locked in contract negotiations with Stoke last night ahead of a deal that could eventually total £5m.
