Portsmouth boss Paul Hart has revealed Steve Finnan is ready to make his debut.
Finnan has left the treatment room after being hampered by a hamstring problem picked up in pre-season.
The 33-year-old is desperate to make his competitive debut after spending much of last season out injured while with Spanish side Espanyol.
Pompey boss Paul Hart said: "Steve Finnan is back in training with us.
"He's not quite ready yet, but we are just easing him through and he is making good progress. He probably won't make the Bolton game, we have to hold him back a bit.
"He's desperate to get back and it's very frustrating for him – that's the type of lad he is. He will be banging his head against a brick wall at the moment.
"We want to make sure that when he does come back, he stays right."
