Liverpool ace Fernando Torres wants the world's biggest nations to reach next year's World Cup.
"A World Cup without Argentina, France or Portugal, it's different," he told a news conference. "I wish for those teams to get through.
"Spain also struggled to qualify for Euro 2008. And then we won."

I think he was referring to the striker that Maradona calls up to the squad to play given he was out of national team since 2000, and ignored their top striker.

reason is simple why argentina and portugal are not performing as well as they should. does mclaren ring a bell when england did not qualify for euro 2008?
coaches are very important, look at what capello transformed england into, in a mere 2 years since he succeeded mclaren. look at the track record of maradona and querox? querox was sacked as RM coach many years ago and maradona has no experience being a coach prior to his present appointment. if argentina and portugal did not qualify, blame their FA for appointing them in the first place.

I hope England FA dun appoint people like mclaren again simply cannot make it. the players are the same, but how capello transformed into a world beaters now. although erikkson is stale and unexciting, but he at least qualify england for euro and world cup and QF's at least.
even if england were to qualify for euro 2008 under mclaren, they be dumped out of the first round.

I won't miss either one of them as someone else will be there to take their place... If they can't even do well in the qualifying stage, then whats the point of letting them go on reputation only?
True that they may have the 2 best players in the World but the rest of the team are just above average i guess... And together with a not very good manager / coach... whats the point?
Portugal's golden generation is over... The days of Luís Figo / Nuno Gomes / Rui Costa / Conceicao / Couto / Vítor Baía / Jorge Costa / Pinto / Paulo Sousa / Abel Xavier all in the team are long gone... In their places are a few individuals but not a team... But I still belief they will make it along with Argentina... But won't miss them if they don't.

Portugal and argentina still got decent players in their squad, good enuff to qualify for world cup under an experienced coach.
Portugal problem is that they do not have a good striker. maybe ronaldo should changed to be a striker perhaps.

he was used as a striker for portugal for quite a few matches alrdy, but it didnt work.

blame it on the coach for his inability to motivate and inspire his players, not to mention his tactical acumen and the players confidence in him. says a lot about the coach, aye.

actually if you have watched portugal, they played well, they had alot of shots, alot of chances, but just lack the finishing.

Brazil, England, Spain & Germany.
would like England to win but most probably will be Brazil.

argentina, lost 4 of the 5 qualifying matches, still dun want to sack maradona and replace him with an experienced coach before it is too late.
there are 2 more matches to save argentina world cup hopes before argentina loses again. never appoint inexperienced or incompetent coaches ever again.

They are World famous for faltering in the final stages and I dont see them as a no horse run team.Argentina on the other hand could some how make it to the last 4 in they should qualify with or without Maradona.
