Man Utd coach confirms market search for Van der Sar replacement
Manchester United goalkeeper coach Eric Steele admits they're scouting for new goalkeeper talent.
He told the Manchester Evening News: "At this football club what would you expect other than that we will always be looking.
"The manager wants the best available squad and it is my job in the goalkeeping department to make sure we have got potential targets that I have checked out.
"The manager will also have checked them out. That is what this club is all about. You have to be ready for every eventuality.
"We have had the Russian goalkeeper (Igor Akinfeev) linked and we've had all sorts linked with us. You will never fail to have that. This football club will always be `in' for such and such a player according to the press and speculation.
"It is always going to happen and this season it has happened because they will have seen Edwin out after his operation and if Ben had had an injury we would be thin on the ground.
"We would be very foolish people if we were not prepared. That is the same in every position.
"It is no different now from 12 months ago. You work with the keepers you have, but you also have to know what else is around. You have to have that in the back of your mind. It is the only sensible way to do it."

man utd should get peter cech... he is arguably the best gk i haf seen so far...
but getting him is not easy. he must be willing to come first, like what ronaldo did to man utd.

I think most of us are mistaken here, I think United are not jus looking for VDS's replacement... They are looking for a 3rd keeper to add competition for Foster and Kuszczak... Kuszczak may even leave at the end of the season if he feels he got no chance to make it to the top spot...
United are rumour to be looking for a keeper as VDS could retire at the end of this season... Whatever happens, Foster is there to stay... And if he can improve in his confidence, he could still be number 1 by next season...
As far as i see it, Foster is a very good keeper... Even much better than Howard. But his seems to have a problem like David James and Howard... So far, he is finding it a bit difficult to settle at a big club. But put him in a less pressure club, he will show his true form...

foster is good goalie lol? what makes you say that?
even without the mistakes he made, he is also not a top goalie. I even rate barthez better than him, who is not only quick, his right leg kicking is also not bad. when barthez first joined utd in his first season, he made goal keeping looks easy because he got the skills.
foster skills are quite limited. if foster is no 1 when VDS retire, when it comes to the latter stages of the season or CL, he will going to cost utd points or progression to the latter stages of CL. just look at carroll and howard error dumped utd out of CL against Ac Milan and Porto respectively.

I think Foster sometimes is too nervous and panic too much.... he made some really stupid mistakes at times.

i think ben got the potential lar. maybe just need managers like wenger to train him.
give him more time, i believe he can make it one day.

Man Utd keeper Van der Sar: Retirement decision made in December
Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar says he'll decide in December if this will be his final season.
"I've said for a few years that it sometimes may be my last season," Van der Sar told Sportsweek. "Six months before my contract with Manchester United ended in December 2006, we extended for one year and so far it has been the same every time.
"I wait each season to see how where I stand, if everyone is happy and if I can still get motivated. But I know, because I always get older, it is increasingly likely that this will be my last season."
He added: ""In December, it will be clear how it goes. By then, I'll have clarity. It is a horrible dilemma. On the one hand I do not oversleep, I feel as good as a few years ago."
