Arsenal fullback Gael Clichy admits Emirates stadium is still to capture the atmosphere of Highbury.
He told BBC Sport: "Well, Emirates is a great stadium with a great atmosphere but surely something is missing from Highbury. I couldn’t tell what is missing but this ground was really special and I only played there for a few years so I guess for someone like you or Dennis Bergkamp it’s even more but when you are coming here, walking down the tunnel, going onto the pitch, waving to the fans and the game starts, you know you are going to win whatever the game was, whatever the team. It was a really special atmosphere.
“I was just thinking about it when the boss (Arsene Wenger) was talking and really for me my stadium would be Emirates because I’m part of the new area and I was there for the first game….the new team, the new generation. But of course I had the chance to play in Highbury and there is a little difference.
"The fans were closer here (at Highbury), it was a small pitch with less people so that was different but of course, for me, Emirates is something bigger like most of the players in this team now.”
there will always be a tradeoff or double-egde sword.
move to a bigger stadium will ensure more ticket revenue and more supporters in a match than a decrepit highbury stadium, but now you dun feel closer than at highbury.
