My bad.
You are right.
If competition enters a market in which a natural monopoly operates efficiently and which there are sufficiently high barriers to entry, then the new entrant has to charge a higher price to make money to cover say their high capital costs.
Damn, you are sharp. ![]()
well, it's going to waste money though, i mean if starhub wins again in 2013, wouldnt it be like wasted?
ggod good good .... now i can pay my money for UCL and BPL .
The loser is strahub .
I think they will lose many many Starhub subscriber , believe me .
now my plan ... keep my starhub for my kids .... minus off the $25 sports channel .
$70 my bill now , will overhaul my price plan , now 2 console for $70 , and i can see UCL and BPL .
Or i will buy a Made-In-China console , see all starhub for free , and subsribe to Mio TV .
I think i am a winner here .
i saw newspaper today .... both this telco fighting for the rights ...
i was thinking , if MioTv got it , good , i can see both UCL and BPL , then good luck to Starhub .
If Starhub got it , i keep on , only to miss the UCL .
I dun lose anything ..... let's see what Starhub is planning next .
let's enjoy our BPL with Starhub until 2010 august , then see what Mio TV is offering ...
BPL this season ends at 2010 May , we rest for 2 months , then end July then decide , like that we save 3 months subscirptions .
Ms Kathleen Syron, Head of Content, StarHub, said: "While we are committed to offering quality sports content, we are mindful of the balance in meeting consumers’ expectations with regard to price, and shareholders’ expectations in terms of profits.
"Presently our Sports package is priced below the cost of the content that makes up that package. Our bid for BPL was aggressive, but also made with the intent to hold retail prices stable."
StarHub holds the exclusive broadcast rights for the current BPL season, which will end in May next year.
Ms Syron added that sports fans can continue to catch delayed telecasts of BPL matches on Goal TV 1 and Goal TV 2 for the current and future seasons.
StarHub’s cable TV service carries over 130 channels offering key genres such as education, entertainment, drama and movies, besides sports.
Looked like Singtel Mio will get this rights for a long long time ..... Starhub doesn't sounds like interested in BPL anymore .
Those Pubs and Clubs , who spent thousands of dollars installing the Cable Network to show BPL , now has to do it another round .
This beautiful game is fast being killed by blood sucking $$$ minded Companies.
Now no BPL and no more local S-league. Back to playing your own balls.

find me a corporation which is not a $$$-bloodsucker and i'll show a potential bankruptcy case ![]()
This so-call competition between Starhub & Singtel is never benefitting football fanatics especially those supporting BPL teams.
When Singtel won the rights to broadcast Champions League matches, I have since stopped subscribing to Starhub Sports Channel. I also refuse to subscribe to Singtel MIO TV.
I made this decision to join a couple of my friends who are also avid BPL fans like me as we feel that if we continue to give in to these pay-TV providers, the issue of increasing price would be a never ending story.
As of currently (based on news articles), 530,000 subscribers of Starhub TV also subscribes to Sports Channel. If all had initially subscribed to Starhub TV Sports Channel because of BPL or Champions League matches, this would have yield Starhub a 3 years subscription of S$477 million (based on Sports Group subscription of about S$25/- per month per subscriber - 530,000 x S$25 x 36 mths). This does not include the fees for the compulsory 3 Basic group that a Starhub TV subscriber has to fork out.
Although Singtel has indicated that they will not be pricing the Sports channels higher than Starhub's, but that does not necessary mean that there will be no other conditions added like Starhub's compulsory 3 Basic group plan.
In addition, what will happen in 3 years time when the bidding starts again?
So my conclusion is, consumers like us, should all stand together and let these pay-TV providers be aware that we depict the prices and not them. If the price keeps increasing, then we will all stop subscribing till the price is brought down.
This would prevent them from making exorbitant bids and then passing it to consumers just because we have no other options.
Another Cable provider to increase competitvesness ?
My ass to MDA and the PAP Garmen , wake up la .
Either one to gain the rights , will lose big money big time .
Starhub just had enough , cos we are clever .
They think they clever ? No we are .
many subscrber used SCV , but still otang them big money ....

also got theory that competition drives up prices because the players need to do intensive advertising and product differentiation which cost money. The costs are of course passed on.
Aiyah, worry what? There 3 options you all can choose from.....
1. Bo bian, Subscribe to Stinktel & pay whatever charges....bah bah....
2. Internet streaming, almost available for every match. Cons: slow!
3. Watch it on TV3, indo channels or RTM? (hey it's free!!) Cons: Timing someX unknown!
One thing i know for sure(well almost), is that WC2010 definately got RTM, indo one & TV3 showing for free. Unless mediacock makes them "snow" like the last time!
