Wiley considered quitting after rap from Man Utd boss Ferguson

Premiership ref Alan Wiley has considered quitting over criticism from Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Daily Mail says friends of the referee revealed that he was tempted to walk away from football over the Manchester United manager's astonishing attack.

Alan Leighton, national secretary of professionals' union Prospect, who represent referees, said: "Sir Alex made comments about other referees and said about European referees being as fit as butchers' dogs.

"But all of our referees pass stringent fitness tests at the start of the season. If Alan Wiley or any other referee were not fit they would not be refereeing."

we all know it, although there's no solid concrete proof written in black and white, many referees are intimidated by ferguson and thats why many people says that man u has benefitted from referring decisions more often then not.

hey youyayu and stellazio, wat u said is gd and very accurate, actually manu was losing alrdy if nt for the own goal...wat alex ferguson said was horrible, if results don't go yr way, dun go blame something as ridiculous like the ref's fitness, go blame the defence instead...

that's why Sir Alex Ferguson(SAF) must be severely punished for such irresponsible remarks with punishments like touchline bans or force the glazers to impose heavy fines on SAF.. y dun he go referee a match himself, n see hw stressful being a ref can be..
