  Man Utd boss Ferguson chooses Akinfeev

  Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is settling on CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev as the man to succeed Edwin van der Sar.

  The Daily Mail says Ferguson is set to move for Akinfeev if Van der Sar retires. The 23-year-old, who became Russia's youngest international at 18 years and 20 days, will play for CSKA when they entertain United in the Champions League on Wednesday week.

  Akinfeev is already preparing himself for a move to the Premiership, having begun taking English lessons since the end of last season.

  Not too sure this is true yet or not leh... Being a United fan for some time liao, I notice whenever they are going to play an important opponent, some news about they being interested in certain players kind of stuff surface as well...

  Last season or the season before, just before they were going to play Porto, news about they being interested in "The Hulk" guy remember...  Then last season play Inter, news about them keen on Maicon also... Then there was Villarreal, news about buying back Rossi came up as well... But all came to nothing, So I am not so sure yet lor... But being in a low profile league he can still be rated only below Cech by one and better than the Pool keeper, he must be not too bad lah. But I think he may be too short to be effective for the EPL though...

  CSKA Moscow are ready to sell goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev to Manchester United.

  The Mirror says CSKA Moscow are prepared to let United speak to the £10million-rated goalkeeper in the January transfer window.

  Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to recruit a world-class keeper with Edwin van der Sar set to retire in May and growing doubts over Ben Foster.

  Akinfeev, 23, who has also been watched by Arsenal, made his Russia debut five years ago is one of Guus Hiddink's emerging stars.

  It is understood he would jump at the chance of moving to Old Trafford and has told CSKA he wants to speak to United in January.
