Wenger must win silverware "this season"

  The Arsenal hierarchy have warned manager Arsene Wenger that they expect the Premier League club to end their four-year trophy drought this season.

  Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said: "It's absolutely our ambition to win a trophy this year. I couldn't be more clear on that. Second, third or fourth isn't good enough. We want to win something - this season - and we believe we have the squad to do that."

  Wenger's last trophy came in 2005 when the Gunners beat Manchester United in a penalty shoot-out to win the FA Cup. Despite consistently finishing in the top four places in the league and reaching the Champions League and Carling Cup final Arsenal have not laid their hands on any silverware since.

  Wenger has always given the excuse that he is developing a young team but Gazidis insists it is time to deliver.

  "We have created and developed a team playing fantastic football," the 45-year-old told the Star on Sunday. "It's wonderful to watch and very exciting at times. We've spoken about the group's potential. Now - and by now I mean this season - it's very important for us to focus strongly on winning something for the fans. They deserve it."

  if wenger really gone, it will be the end of total football in England. The style Arsenal has played under Arsene Wenger is one that is almost impossible to replicate. Wenger's ability to bring 'someone' out of a 'no one'. Which manager can do that? It is only Wenger.
