Micah Richards is ready to quit Manchester City in January in a bid to put his once-promising career back on track. And if the defender does leave in the next window, City manager Mark Hughes will move for Bayern Munich's Philipp Lahm as a replacement.
Richards, rated at £15million, has become disillusioned with life at Eastlands after a series of run-ins with Hughes and the coaching staff.
Despite the huge Abu Dhabi backed revolution in full swing at City, Richards is disenchanted with the direction of his game and has told close pals a move away from the Blues could re-ignite a career which two years ago saw him earmarked for greatness with club and country.
But since then the muscular 21-year-old defender has lost his way. The form which catapulted him into the England side as a teenager has evaporated spectacularly and as things stand he has no chance of going to the World Cup in South Africa next summer.
England boss Fabio Capello has serious reservations about Richards' tactical and positional play and although he has speed, strength and athleticism the Italian coach believes Glen Johnson and Wes Brown represent a far better bet at right back as main choices.
Torrid That has left Richards in the cold on the international front and although he has been a regular for Stuart Pearce's under-21 outfit, I understand Capello won't consider the youngster until his game intelligence improves dramatically.
Richards' poor form was highlighted in the recent Manchester derby when 35-yearold Ryan Giggs gave him a torrid time and the City defender was ball watching and out of position when Michael Owen scored the dramatic stoppage-time winner for United.
Harsh words were exchanged after that game and Richards has now reached the conclusion that a move in January could be the best way forward.
I understand Richards has even identified which clubs he would be prepared to join - with Aston Villa certain to lead the chase if Hughes sanctions his departure in January.
Martin O'Neill is a longstanding admirer of Richards and would jump at the chance to pair him up again with Richard Dunne who signed from City in a £6million deadline-day deal.
In the past United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all shown an interest in the youngster - but that was when he was performing well and rated in the £20million plus bracket.
Then, City would never have sold their prized youngster but now the dynamic at Eastlands has shifted - and the value of Richards has dropped along with his performance level.
The club want only the best and Hughes will again be handed hefty funds in the January window to add the extra pieces to his jigsaw.
For the first time there is a willingness from the club to trade Richards at the right price enabling Hughes to make a major play for 25-year-old German international Lahm.
k bye
Pool shld get him?
If i were a manager at liverpool, i wouldn't get him as the RB position is already occupied by Glen Johnson
then WB meh ![]()
if Johnson injured, use him lor
he damn fit
Liverpool have no money to spend.
They need a striker and a creative midfielder.
Not a defender.
yeah hes damn fit. but i am thinking he played best at DC or DR? because there are reports of Arsenal getting him to replace Gallas.
if Villa goes for it... it will be awesome to see dunn and richards.... but there goes cuellar or curtis davis' first team
Can he play CB?
yes he plays CB too

hmm.. then i oso see him as a successor to carragher plus he could maybe be the one that can incorporate carragher's style of defending n use it more effectively against drogba...
arsenal should get him. he is young and he can cover CB. we need english players.
give man city silvestre or senderos or something. since they like old players with full of experienced. senderos got uefa experience to help man city in future europa league.
His body is damn cut.
Oh and yeah,we need someone like him at the heart of our defence.
Carragher is past his prime.

The January move is designed to blow rivals Manchester United's interest out of the water.
City also hope to land another Brazil international, Benfica midfielder Ramires, for £25m next summer if they fail with a £65m British record swoop for Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery.
Boss Mark Hughes has up to £100m to spend when the transfer window reopens, but feels his team now needs only a little fine tuning. And Inter Milan's Maicon is on the hit-list, as Hughes eyes the minimum of a Champions League slot next season.
Maicon, 28, is rated one of the world's best full-backs and has started all but three of Brazil's 17 World Cup qualifiers.
His agent, Antonio Caliendo, revealed United were big admirers and that did not go unnoticed by City, who will be happy to meet the player's £90,000-a-week pay demand.
Ramires, 22, only joined Benfica for £6m this summer
come join the red devils to regain your form!
He is a bad footballer.
If he cannot make it at Man City, what makes him think he can make it at one of the bigger clubs?
He is just another over-rated player, like Lee Sharpe, Dominic Matteo, David Thompson, Matthew Taylor and many others who think that they are that great when they are mediocre at best.
Come to the Red side of Manchester. We will welcome you
inter just lost maxwell to barce, now maicon to city?
I don't mind him as a def in DEVILS!!! ehehehehheehe young somemore.
but..is he injury proooo?
you think rafa will buy a black meh? very hard lo..
i dont think richard would be stupid enough to go la.
no other clubs can offer him the same salary as city would.
I think Man City will be stupid to sell him. I seen him play in Man City vs Arsenal 4-2.
His performance is great and I believe he can achieved greatness. He is only 21.
Everybody has some patchy moment , give him sometime and he will be back on form.
well, a lot of hype was on him when he first appeared, he got power, pace, and seemingly everything.
but the wheels seems to come off this last season where his form was erratic and not even included in england team.
rem, the game vs United, he was nowhere near Owen when he scored, and he was having a torrid time with Giggs.
Maybe, he needs to go to a team that has a good history of nuturing young talents like United or Arsenal.
