Birmingham make third improved offer for Liverpool winger Babel

Birmingham have made a third improved bid for Liverpool attacker Ryan Babel.

The Mirror says Brum boss Alex McLeish is desperate to fend off interest from Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp and land the Dutch forward.

McLeish has gone back with an improved package of personal terms worth an extra £10,000-a-week - and a guarantee that he will be played as a centre-forward.

Babel is desperate to get regular games in the Premier League to safeguard his place in the Dutch World Cup squad and was worried a move to Birmingham would not help his career if he was being played out of position.

Redknapp would love to sign Babel but could not guarantee him regular games as Tottenham have a wealth of strikers, including Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch and wantaway Roman Pavlyuchenko.

i think he wil be a good asset to a much improve club. however the problem with such clubs is that the manager is often prized away soon by the big clubs.

Liverpool ponder Arsenal kid Merida in Babel offer

Liverpool winger Ryan Babel could be on his way to Arsenal.

The People says Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is offering bad boy Babel to Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger in a shock deadline-beating deal.

The Kop chief needs Babel to leave to give him funds for his top target Kenwyne Jones at Sunderland - and he is negotiating with Wenger about a buy or an exchange.

Babel has already snubbed a straight swap with Sunderland and is turning his nose up at Birmingham, but he would be keen on a dream move to the Emirates.

Benitez has asked Wenger if he can have cash for Babel, but the £11million asking price is too high.

However there is the option of a swap involving Spaniard Fran Merida. Merida is out of contract in the summer, so Arsenal could be willing to trade.

merida is promising but no where near good. babel is better, look at his ajax record. merida is too short and not domineering enough to play for Arsenal

this only shows how limited in ability Merida is. if he were really that good, he can still go on to Liverpool and break into the first team.
