  Arsenal boss Wenger: Third-place better than winning Cups

  Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger rates finishing third ahead of winning either the FA or Carling Cups.

  Wenger knows their title hopes are on the line tomorrow at Chelsea.

  “It’s very important that we win something,” Wenger said yesterday. “We’re here to win trophies. But it depends on what you call trophies. Is it the Champions League, the Premier League, the League Cup? If you win the League Cup, for me, you cannot say that you win trophies.”

  Asked if third position was better than winning either domestic cup, Wenger said: “Of course. It’s much more difficult. I want to win trophies and I’m frustrated if I don’t.

  “But a season does not go from fantastic to zero. A season in the English league, when you fight with Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Man United and Chelsea to finish in the top three, is still not a disaster.

  “We’ve just qualified from the group stage in the Champions League for the tenth consecutive season. That is, for me, three times as difficult as winning the League Cup five times. I know what’s difficult and what’s not difficult. I know people want to parade with a trophy and if you don’t win a trophy, you can’t do that. But it doesn’t mean the rest of the season has been completely useless.”

  I think it's the disease among the old people, they tend to talk rubbish. Fergie rant about referee when 5 minutes is more than enough added on time, Wenger suggesting banning of throw ins and now he's satisfied finishing third rather than winning throphies?

  the shareholders wont mind finishing third every year as there are money to be made in the CL.

  but what about the fans?

  are they happy with no trophies to show for so many years?

  Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger accepts his players are too inexperienced to hurt the major clubs.

  Wenger called his side 'naive' in the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea and says they could not match battle-hardened Blues.

  He said: "Our average age is 23 years and Chelsea's is 29 - I think that it showed in the decisive moments on the pitch. I think we were a bit naive on the first corner and then we got caught on the break.

  "We have to give everything until the last second of the championship, whatever happens.

  "We can't have any regrets, and if Chelsea are better than us and win the title, or if it's Manchester United, then we will congratulate them along with everyone else.

  "But that's not a reason for us to give up.

  "We have to show the dignity of our ambitions and sometimes that means fighting until the end."

  Arsenal need another striker to complement Van Persie. Eduardo is not the same player before he was injured and is always out injured and that bentner is just not good enough.

  Guys like Denilson, Diaby, Song have been playing in the EPL for like what, 2,3 years?

  2,3 years of experience=not EPL battle-hardened veterans, but they aren't exactly EPL virgins either.

  So no excuse they are still "kids".

  If you are good enough, you are old enough.

  These players are lacking in playing qualities, not that they are still young.

  bendtner cannot make it.

  he is big but plays like a wimp.

  arsenal need aggressive strikers.

  theo walcott sucks.  he should leave arsenal for a smaller team to play regularly.  he has hardly improved over the years.
