Fabiano admits hand ball
Brazil star Luis Fabiano admitted that he handled the ball twice before scoring his second goal against Ivory Coast on Sunday, but then offered a bizarre defence of his actions.
Brazil beat the African side 3-1 in what was a fractious encounter in Johannesburg that saw a number of fouls, yellow cards and a red card for Brazilian midfielder Kaka. The South Americans deserved the win, but Fabiano’s second goal was highly suspect.
Replays showed that he handled the ball twice and the Sevilla striker admitted as much.
"Well, that is true, it seems as though the ball hit my hand and the second time it hit my shoulder," he said. "But to make the goal more beautiful there needed to be a bit of doubt."
The win means Brazil have already qualified for the last 16 of the tournament with a game to play.
