Unlike most of the country, England's players look like the World Cup humiliation hasn't hit them too hard judging by this photo.
Smoking cigars, feet up, smiling and relaxing with a few beers, you'd think this was a team celebrating a famous victory.
Escape from defeat: From left, Aaron Lennon with cigar, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jermain Defoe and Glen Johnson, while Michael Dawson sits between two smiling teammates
Ashley Cole launched a foul-mouthed rant about
England and its 'people' days before flying out to the World Cup to
play football for his country.
The disgraceful message - which read 'I hate England and the f***ing people' - was sent to pals from the Chelsea defender's Blackberry shortly before he boarded a flight to England's pre-World Cup training camp in Austria.
The
29
year old posted it as his status message - alongside a picture of
him sunbathing topless - allowing all those designated as his friends to
see it.
But Cole yesterday said: 'I always try my hardest for England and Chelsea but the intrusion and pressure I feel is making my life hell.'
Instead, this is England's hapless footballers just hours after crashing out to Germany 4-1 in the nation's worst ever World Cup defeat.
The snap was taken by defender Ledley King on
Sunday in the
Hotel Marang in Rustenberg, where the England team was holed up.
Taken on his BlackBerry phone, it was apparently leaked by someone using a function which allows selected friends to share photos.
The image is low quality but Aaron Lennon can be seen puffing on a cigar, while fellow winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, striker Jermain Defoe, right back Glen Johnson and Michael Dawson are among the others chatting merrily around tables dotted with beer bottles and empty glasses.
Under-fire England boss Fabio Capello arrived back in Britain yesterday with his players after their disastrous World Cup campaign.
But within hours the £6million-a-year manager had jetted off again on holiday with his wife.
Rather than
staying at home to face the wrath of England fans after the team's
worst-ever World Cup defeat on Sunday, the 64-year-old Italian grabbed
his bags and headed for a break.
Defiant: England manager Fabio Capello - who has refused to resign - arrives back at his London home
Fleeing the country: Fabio Capello and wife Laura jet off on holiday just hours after the England manager returned from South Africa
He was
photographed with wife Laura checking in to Swiss Air's business class
desk at London City Airport en route to Swizerland.
Meanwhile his players also enjoyed a return
to their pampered lifestyles, with Frank Lampard enjoying time with his
TV presenter girlfriend Christine Bleakley and Steven Gerrard taking his
wife, Alex, out for a leisurely lunch.
Bleakley had followed her 32-year-old
boyfriend to South Africa and had travelled back with him on the plane
last night.
The players, who are facing mounting anger over their World Cup performances, arrived at Heathrow shortly after 6am and immediately tried to shuffle out of view.
Unlike returning fans, the players
were whisked through a VIP suite without having to pass through one of
Heathrow's terminals - or face the waiting press.
They were then driven to their mansions in a fleet of people carriers.
David Beckham, who Capello invited along as a member of England's backroom team after an injury prevented him from playing, flew on to Nice to holiday with wife Victoria and their three sons.
The couple have a huge chateau in nearby
Bargemon.
Something to tell us? TV presenter Christine Bleakley - wearing a ring on her engagement finger - and boyfriend Frank Lampard leave his London home
Lunch date: England skipper Steven Gerrard takes his wife Alex for lunch in Southport, Merseyside
Family trip: A casual-looking David Beckham - who has rarely been seen out of his three-piece suit lately - arrives at Nice Airport en route to Bargemon where Victoria and the children are staying at their chateau
tis is one call of celebration i seen
Wow beckham is handsome
ashley cole getting more and more wtf. i seriously dont understand what he doing.
y liddat oso canot?
when u lose is like that one
What you want them to do?
Cry?
Go for counselling?
There are more important things in life than winning the World Cup.
Like getting paid millions of pounds by playing professional football.
EPL starting soon and they haven even go on their holidays yet. now is the time to drink, club and have fun from night till dawn.
Do they get paid big money to play in the world cup compared to EPL?
then what u want them to do?
squat down in a corner and cry all day?
England will forever be under-achievers.
last time england was good in the 50s-60s, with bobby charlton and gordon banks gracing for england. england started to deteriorate in the 70s before bouncing back in the 80s. that time england started playing long balls, hustle and bustle football till now.
all dickheads, i hope to see none of them in the Euro 2012.
You expected them to cut their wrists? life goes on.
England players will forever be under-achievers for the simple reasons that they are paid exorbitant salaries and receive lots of media attention. The weight of expectation on them is just too much to bear. No matter what they achieve, it will never be enough and proportionate with public expectation...............
EPL is all hustle and bustle, tackles, pace and long balls, but low on skills unlike la liga or serie a or german league. thats why england national team after all these years are so fark up. the reason why EPL is strong is due to the influx of good and world class foreigners like torres, drogba et al. when the england national team play, their brand of football is not good to the eye, as they play bland and boring football like kick and rush type. where is the passing and possession football? none whatsoever.
few issue need to address:
1. there isnt any arsenal player in england side. player that play the technical side of game.
2. no pride in representing the country.
3. big ego millionaire that put itself before country. can tell they arent playing with heart and soul. totally different kind of player we see in the EPL. skills aside, one can tell there is hardly effort put in the tackles, chasing after loose ball, running space and covering for each other.
capello, go axe the spoilt brat of current crop, especially ashley cole, wayne rooney, john terry, barry. they hardly put in effort to provide critics wrong. instead they just want to avoid injury to prepare themselves for new EPL season. FXXX
the best english player with good technical skills at the moment is rooney lor
Capello has been confirmed that he will be staying as england manager.
whats the use? england wont win the euro 2012.....
Even how good some individual English players are, those English Media specially will shoot them as long as the team fails.

the current best english player is rooney. no other english players even come close.
that is the sad state of the england national team at the moment.
rooney is a big joke! most useless player in england squad right now.
how come no manure mod mentioned dat he booked holiday ticket in advance before the big germany lost?
I couldnt help but wonder if that diver or palachan is a voyeur of yours. kids will be kids anyway.
I think the england team has got the highest salaries among all world cup squads.
