I am desperate to play at least some part in tomorrow's game. What player on the planet wouldn't be? It's everything we dream of from the moment we start kicking a ball to the moment we learn all about the world's greatest football tournament.
Because that's exactly what the World Cup is. Yes, representing your country is the ultimate honour for any player - and to do it at the World Cup is unbeatable.
I can't deny it has hurt not to be in Spain's starting line-ups throughout this tournament. But I only have to look at our incredible players - and especially our midfielders - to realise I'm so honoured to be part of this magnificent Spanish side.
Of course I believe I can play a part in making history for our country, which has never won a World Cup before. If I'm lucky enough to get a start, I will give everything I have. But if I have to start on the bench, then so be it. All I can pray for is that I get a chance to play some part of this unbelievable game.
Please boss: Fernando Torres is begging Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque for a place in his World Cup final starting line-up
Fernando Torres has had a private meeting with Spain coach Vicente del Bosque and begged to be allowed to play in the World Cup final.
Torres is sweating on a place in Sunday night's line-up against Holland after enduring a dreadful, scoreless tournament and after being left out of the team that beat Germany in Wednesday night's semi-final in Durban.
It is understood the Liverpool striker spoke personally to coach Del Bosque at Spain's training base two hours outside Johannesburg and told him he will not let him down if he is reinstated for the final here at Soccer City.
Torres was left out against Germany after being substituted on the hour in Spain's two previous knock-out matches against Paraguay and Portugal. He was replaced by Barcelona midfielder Pedro against Germany, with David Villa being moved in from the left wing to play through the middle.
Del Bosque has not told his players yet who will play on Sunday. Torres didn't find out he was not starting Wednesday's semifinal until three hours before kick-off and Del Bosque is likely to employ the same tactic this weekend.
Even though Spain have never played in a World Cup final, they will start as favourites tomorrow.
Nevertheless, the threat of one of the players of the tournament, Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder, cannot be ignored and on Friday Spanish defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets claimed that stopping the Inter Milan playmaker could be the secret to a Spanish victory.
wa..torres dont start pls...pedro so much better... feb can replace alonso or busquet..
it's about the formation that's gonna be used luh. if villa and torres were to start tgt in the middle it's okay. but now spain is playing villa on the left wing forward leaving torres along in the middle which i think not so suitable. use back what they used during the euro08 will be good. i dont think final should start cesc, unless the coach has the confidence that he will be able to stop sneijder which i think busquets will do a better job. cesc more of attacking imo.
talk is cheap... wont let u down..like real.....looking for personal honour only....
yes..tho busquet is clumsy but he's a natural ball winner...
busquets reminds me of darren fletcher
Villa wil be tightly marked, Torres will really need to score when given the chance, doubt Spain will need Pedro because this dutch team isn't that defensive as the Germans, and they shouldn't have so much trouble penetrating through.
Fabregas will come on as a sub i guess, he can't replace Xavi or Iniesta or Busquets.
I hate torres for some reason... haha
