  Palermo confirm bid for Liverpool’s Lucas Palermo have admitted an offer has been made for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva but they insist that they have not bid the reported fee of £5m. The Serie A club have been linked with the Brazilian for several months and the speculation has increased following the arrival of Roy Hodgson at Anfield. Lucas was a regular in former boss Rafa Benitez's first XI last season after Xabi Alonso was sold to Real Madrid, but the 23-year-old still struggled to win over his critics. Palermo, though, are admirers and sporting director Walter Sabatini has confirmed that they would like to sign the ex Gremio player, telling TGS: "We made a first offer to Liverpool for Lucas Pezzini (Leiva). "But I deny that we have offered €6m. That is too much."

  Liverpool prepared to sell Lucas to Palermo

  Liverpool midfielder Lucas is on the verge of a move to Palermo, reports The Sun.

  The Brazilian joined the Reds in 2007 for £6million from Gremio.

  Liverpool have rejected a £5m bid from the Serie A side but talks are continuing between the two clubs and are at an advanced stage.

  The Merseyside outfit want at least £8m

  All smiles: Lucas may yet have a future with Liverpool

   

  Lucas Leiva has been thrown an Anfield lifeline after Roy Hodgson assured him he still had a future at Liverpool.

  The Brazilian midfielder's days at the club appeared numbered after Palermo confirmed they had made a £3million bid and indicated a willingness to increase it.

  But, while left-back Emiliano Insua may still go to Fiorentina, Hodgson feels Lucas' improved form last season has earned him a place in his squad for the coming campaign.

  Lecce, meanwhile, have made a £1m bid for Liverpool Hungarian striker Krisztian Nemeth, 21. Flamengo have also joined the race to sign reserve keeper Diego Cavalieri. Santos and Corinthians are also interested.

  skrtel last season was not really good. after agger came back from injury it has been about 80% agger. masch high chance to be leaving. babel is more of a technical player than a winger, hence he should be able to sub torres or maybe play as attacking midfield. and masch.. need i say more?

  LUCAS WANTS TO STAY AT ANFIELD

  

   

  Midfielder Lucas Leiva insists he wants to remain at Liverpool despite speculation linking him with a summer move to Italy.

  The much-derided 23-year-old was one of the more consistent performers last season but, as he is seen as being a favourite of former Reds manager Rafael Benitez, doubts have been raised about the Brazilian's future.

  However, he is determined to prove to new boss Roy Hogdson he is worth a place in the squad despite being linked with Palermo.

  "I'm happy in Liverpool and looking forward to my fourth season," he said.

  "I hope I stay. I'm happy to play for Liverpool and to improve my performances, as I did last season.

  "I'm not here to try to prove critics wrong. I'm here to prove myself to the manager and my team-mates.

  "That's the most important thing. I don't know why people criticise me so much but I just try to be positive and be strong.

  "I know I had a good season last season and hope it will be even better this season.

  "I have to keep going and show the manager that I can play and have the quality that he expects."

  Lucas is one of the few senior players currently at the club's training camp in Switzerland so has been one of the first to experience Hodgson's methods.

  "He seems to be very good as a coach, good with the tactical side of the game," he added.

  "He will help everyone but for me he has a lot of experience, he has worked with big players at big clubs so his experience will help in giving me advice to help improve my game.

  "I am confident we will have a better season. When there are lots of changes new motivation comes through and I think we can do better. We will do better."

   

  Meanwhile, Hodgson has confirmed Sammy Lee will remain at the club, although his exact role has yet to be decided. 

  Former Reds midfielder Lee was Benitez's assistant manager and has been told he still has a job among the backroom staff. 

  "Sammy will stay here for the foreseeable future, absolutely - as long as he wants to be here,'' Hodgson told the Liverpool Echo. 

  "I have no intention of letting him go and if he wants to stay with us, he is more than welcome. 

  "I haven't made decisions on any [other positions] yet.''
