Only nine of the 42 players signed by Premier League clubs this summer are English.
Of those nine Englishmen, five were in the top division last year. That means an influx of just four new English signings so far, compared to 24 new foreigners.
what happened is very very bad. lol...i think england are doomed for euro 2012 and WC 2016.

hey, a wise man once told me, Italian league is filled with Homegrown players, but look @ how they did in WC..
Look @ wenger's reply, I don't care about England, I am not the manager..
oh well... watever.
it's good to see liverpool signing some englishmen
It'll be nice to see villa just sign anyone....even if it's youth players...

i think italy's poor showing is down to lippi's failing....he used too many old guards. If wenger did care about england, he wouldn't field a team of 11 foreigners most times haha.
villa buy lucas pls!
ARSENAL: Marouane Chamakh and Laurent Koscielny have arrived and Arsene Wenger is still seeking a new keeper with his bid for Mark Schwarzer of Fulham stalling. Eduardo has departed but the big question mark remains the future of Cesc Fabregas as the Gunners continue to fight off Barcelona's persistent interest.
ASTON VILLA: Martin O'Neill is always cautious in the market and he is waiting to see if James Milner completes a move to Manchester City before spending himself. Robbie Keane is one likely target and there could be a player coming in exchange from City - Stephen Ireland is one mentioned - but everything appears to be on hold.
BIRMINGHAM: Ben Foster was quickly drafted in to replace Joe Hart and the deal to sign giant striker Nikola Zigic was done before the World Cup. Enric Valles has also signed for Alex McLeish's men, who give the impression that they've conducted a key part of their business very early into the summer.
BLACKBURN: No incoming signings yet but Sam Allardyce has been keeping tabs on trialists like Gai Assulin and Andranik Teymourian. Rovers want a new striker now Franco Di Santo has returned to Chelsea but nothing has materialised regarding one top target in James Beattie. Steven Reid and Yildiray Basturk have been released.
BLACKPOOL: Ian Holloway has warned he doesn't want any 'Big Time Charlies' and his only business has been to line up Israeli defender Dekel Keinan. The loan market will interest the newcomers and they will have to negotiate skilfully as the deadline approaches. Francis Jeffers has been on trial and the Seasiders are terribly short of attacking options.
BOLTON: Free transfers Robbie Blake and Martin Petrov have arrived and Owen Coyle seems pretty content with his squad. He's still trying to land Jack Wilshere on loan again and there's likely to be more activity before the season gets underway. Coyle used the loan system effectively last term and is set to follow suit again this time around.
CHELSEA: Yossi Benayoun has been signed from Liverpool but the champions are yet to make a spectacular signal of intent. Fernando Torres and Sergio Aguero are rumoured to be targets and it's possible that Carlo Ancelotti will only make one big-name capture. The Blues want to give youth a chance while Tomas Kalas, 17, has been bought but loaned back to Sigma Olomouc. Joe Cole, Michael Ballack and Juliano Belletti have all departed.
EVERTON: David Moyes is usually pretty cagey but has drafted four new faces into his squad. Keeper Jan Mucha provides back-up to Tim Howard while Jermaine Beckford is an interesting recruit in attack on a free. Magaye Gueye and Joao Silva have also been snapped up for undisclosed fees. Although the Toffees were dismayed to lose Dan Gosling to Newcastle, their best bit of business has undoubtedly been persuading Jack Rodwell to sign a new contract.
FULHAM: No manager yet so things are on hold at Craven Cottage. Jonathan Greening has completed a permanent move and Philippe Senderos will provide real cover at the heart of the defence in the wake of Chris Smalling's exit. Until a replacement for Roy Hodgson is found, it's unlikely too much activity will take place - even if Schwarzer remains a target for Arsenal.
LIVERPOOL: The Merseysiders won the race for Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic also gives a fresh option in attack. There is major concern that Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano's desire to leave will see them sold but Steven Gerrard is staying put. Jonjo Shelvey and Danny Wilson have been purchased with the future in mind while a new left-back has got to be a priority. Yossi Benayoun, Albert Riera and Fabio Aurelio have all left.
MANCHESTER CITY: The only big spenders this time around it would seem and City are linked with new players every day. There's no doubt that Yaya Toure, Jerome Boateng and David Silva will strengthen Roberto Mancini's squad significantly while full-back Aleksandar Kolarov will compete with Wayne Bridge for a starting spot. Alex Henshall is a teenager signed from Swindon. Expect more big names, including James Milner, and then a firesale to meet the new 25-man squad criteria.
MANCHESTER UNITED: The deal for Chris Smalling was signed in January and Javier Hernandez put pen-to-paper before his impressive showing at the World Cup. Although chief executive David Gill continues to insist there is plenty of money to spend after last year's sale of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sir Alex Ferguson stresses he's happy with his squad. A midfielder would be most fans' priority but nothing would appear imminent. Ben Foster and Zoran Tosic have been offloaded.
NEWCASTLE: Chris Hughton has had to be canny but did well to snap up Gosling from Everton. Although the midfielder is currently injured, he should be an astute purchase while James Perch has to prove himself at the highest level. Sol Campbell looks set to bolster the defence and the Magpies will look to use the loan market as well with cash at a premium.
STOKE: Only Portsmouth's Florent Cuvelier has signed for Tony Pulis' Potters. It's believed that Pulis wants a top-quality centre-forward with Carlton Cole and Kenwyne Jones on his hit-list. Amdy Faye and Andy Griffin are among those who have left but more could follow, including Michael Tonge. There is money to spend which should prove benefical when things begin to heat up.
SUNDERLAND: Steve Bruce has been busy this summer with Simon Mignolet, Titus Bramble, Marcos Angeleri, Ahmed Al-Muhammadi and Cristian Riveros all arriving on Wearside. With Craig Gordon injured, the Black Cats also want David James as a stop-gap option in goal and John Mensah is poised to return from Lyon. Danny Welbeck is a loan target and the comings and goings will continue. Lorik Cana was a surprise departee.
TOTTENHAM: Harry Redknapp can be guaranteed to get involved when the merry-go-round starts as he's targeted three new arrivals to add to the capture of Sandro. The Brazilian midfielder is an interesting acquisition but Spurs know they must strengthen to improve on last term's fine showing. The lure of Champions League football could be crucial if Tottenham get through to the group stages and, although they missed out on Joe Cole, any incoming deals could have a knock-on effect regarding the likes of David Bentley and Robbie Keane.
WEST BROM: Steven Reid has finalised his move from Blackburn while Gabriel Tamas and Pablo Ibanez should strengthen the defence. Roberto Di Matteo is running the rule over former Manchester United midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba but the Baggies have never been a club to splash out after promotion. Slovenia captain Robert Koren left after falling out with Di Matteo.
WEST HAM: Avram Grant wants to stamp his own identity on Upton Park and Frederic Piquionne has signed after working under the Israeli at Portsmouth. Pablo Barrera should be an exciting capture and German Thomas Hitzlsperger returns to the Premier League. With the owners declaring they'd listen to offers for everybody bar Scott Parker, expect plenty more moves before August 31.
WIGAN: Plenty of reshaping of the squad at the DW Stadium and there's still the threat of Maynor Figueroa leaving. Titus Bramble and Mario Melchiot have exited so Antolin Alcaraz is a welcome addition at the back. Ali Al-Habsi joins to provide cover between the posts while James McArthur has completed his switch from Hamilton. Mauro Boselli will be asked to fire the bullets at the sharp end.
WOLVES: Mick McCarthy seems pretty satisfied with his business so far, which has included snapping up Steven Fletcher, who did well at Burnley last season. Stephen Hunt was a long-term target who will be looking to get fit after moving from Hull and Jelle van Damme has played in the Premier League before with Southampton. With Adlene Guedioura and Steven Mouyokolo also penning permanent deals, there's been plenty to keep the fans happy at Molineux.
Premier League clubs are primed for another summer of wheeling and dealing.
