Champions League matches will be played with two extra officials for the next two seasons.
The introduction of the additional referees has been ratified by FIFA at a meeting of the International Football Association Board in Cardiff.
Denied: Germany keeper Neuer watches as Lampard's shot lands behind the line in South Africa, but the goal wasn't given
Gutted: Lampard can't believe his goal has been denied
The move follows an experiment in the Europa League last season, which will also persist with have the extra pair of eyes stationed close to each goalline.
The officials will help the referee with particular responsibility for judging when the ball has crossed the line and infringements inside the penalty box.
Having such assistance at the World Cup would surely have prevented Frank Lampard being denied a goal against Germany when his shot clearly crossed the line and England went on to lose the match 4-1.
The Cardiff meeting did not discuss the implementation of goalline technology, but FIFA reiterated that the matter would be on the agenda at their annual meeting in October.
The system of extra officials will also be used in the European Super Cup this season, as well as a handful of other competitions around the world after IFAB opened the experiment up to confederations outside of Europe. The experiment is due to continue until 2012.
IFAB, which comprises representatives from FIFA and the four home nations, rejected the notion of goal-line technology in March on the grounds of cost and the possible disruption it would bring.
And also the ghost goal Luis Garcia scored..

If football's lawmakers need any more reason to introduce goalline technology - another showpiece FIFA tournament has been hit by controversy.
The Under 20 Women's World Cup has suffered a near-identical episode to Frank Lampard being denied a goal against Germany at South Africa 2010 despite the England midfielder's shot clearly crossing the line.
France forward Lea Rubio was the wronged player this time when her long-range shot cannoned off the crossbar, bounced behind the line and Germany keeper Desiree Schumann played on like nothing had happened - just like Manuel Neuer in Bloemfontein.
Coincidentally, Germany won the match 4-1 and France missed out on progressing from their group because their goal difference was narrowly inferior to Mexico.
In a twist, the referee this time was Slovakia-born England representative Sasa Ihringova.
The match report on FIFA's website failed to mention the episode, which will provide further embarrassment to world football chief Sepp Blatter and those sitting down in Cardiff to discuss rule changes this week.
Any decision on goalline technology has been put off till October at the earliest, though progress has been promised before the 2014 World Cup.
eh, i thought the German keeper used to be Nadine Angerer ?
she was like the female Oliver Kahn.............
is Bridget Prinz still around ?
This is the UNDER20 Women World Cup team....
Nadine already 31.... (She is still around of course...GK for National Team of Germany).
Duh. fainted.
i just feel that irregardless of any blunders or etc, the FIFA will still stick to their idea of adding people instead of technology..
I simply can't understand their resistance to something that is being already done in other sports.
can someone think of other reasons why FIFA want to go along this path?
why dont they do like tennis or badminton,
put ppl to watch the lines..cheaper the technology i guess..
cheers
Sepp Blatter wants face la. He feel he cant lose face as world soccer chief.

in tennis, they do it, but they use hawk-eye for those which hit the line cause the game is too fast for the naked eye.
btw, the FIFA are putting people on the lines, 4th or 5th official.. but no hawkeye..

but there will still be controversies if the ball lands on the line..
